If you’ve been wondering why acne you’ve been dealing with acne for years isn’t clearing — not months, not “just started breaking out,” but years — this is for you.

Because you’re not new to this.

You’re true to this.

By now, I know you’ve tried:

  • every skincare product
  • every “holy grail” routine
  • every supplement stack
  • multiple dermatologists
  • birth control, spironolactone, maybe even Accutane
  • cutting dairy, gluten, sugar… maybe all three

And somehow you’re still here like:

“I don’t get it. Why is nothing actually working?”

Maybe things calm down for a little bit…
Maybe you get close…

But your skin has never stayed clear.

If that’s you, I want to walk you through the two biggest reasons I see (both from my clients and from my own journey) that keep women stuck in this cycle for years.

First, Let’s Talk About the Cycle You’re Stuck In

Before we even get into the two reasons, we need to name what’s actually happening.

Because this is the pattern I see over and over again:

You try something new → your skin improves a little → you think “this might be it” → then the acne comes back → then you try something else.

And because there is always something new to try (thanks, internet experts 🙃), you stay stuck in this loop for YEARS.

It’s not because you’re not trying hard enough.

It’s because you’re spending time on things that were never going to work in the first place.

Reason #1: You’re Still Treating Your Acne Like a Skin Problem

This one might sting a little — but it’s the biggest shift.

You’re still looking at your acne like:

“I just haven’t found the right product yet.”

So you go from:

  • one salicylic acid → another
  • one retinol → a stronger one → prescription tretinoin
  • adding exfoliants → switching brands → upgrading routines

And listen — I’m not anti-skincare. At all.

But here’s the nuance I want you to really understand:

👉🏽 Skincare has a ceiling … it gets to a point.

It can:

  • help with texture
  • help with clogged pores
  • support your skin barrier
  • fade dark marks

But it cannot:

  • stop your body from overproducing oil
  • fix why your skin cells are turning over too fast
  • regulate your hormones
  • fix your gut
  • reduce internal inflammation

Your cleanser that sits on your face for 60 seconds?

She can only do so much.

Your retinol?

Yes, she’s a heavy hitter — but if your body is still creating the problem, she’s constantly playing catch-up.

That’s why the acne you’ve been dealing with acne for years isn’t clearing.

The Moment Most Women Hit (But Don’t Know What to Do Next)

There’s a point where your routine is actually … pretty solid.

You’ve got:

  • a gentle cleanser
  • a good exfoliant (mandelic, salicylic, etc.)
  • sunscreen
  • maybe a retinol

And your skin is like:

“Okay… this is decent.”

…but you’re still breaking out.

And that’s when confusion hits:

“It’s working… but it’s not really working?”

➡️ That’s your sign that this is no longer a skincare problem.

The Story That Explains This Perfectly

I had a client tell me about the moment everything clicked for her.

She went on vacation.
Packed all her skincare.
Had her routine down to a science.

But one of her products broke in her luggage.

She went three days without it.

Three. Days.

And by day three?
Her skin was freaking out.

By the end of the trip, it looked worse than when she left. 22. Top 2 Reasons Why Nothing’s…

That was her breaking point.

Because think about it:

If your skin falls apart after three days without a product … you didn’t clear your acne.

You managed it.

That’s not freedom.
That’s micromanagement.

What Real Clear Skin Actually Looks Like

Real clear skin looks like:

  • You miss a day (or three) of your routine → nothing happens
  • You travel → your skin stays stable
  • You go through a stressful week → your skin doesn’t revert back to square one

Because life is going to life.

And if your skin can’t handle that?

There’s something deeper going on.

Reason #2: You’ve Been Suppressing Symptoms Instead of Understanding Them

This is the second piece — and it’s where everything starts to click.

Instead of asking:

✅ “Why is this happening?”

Most of us were taught to ask:

❌ “What can I take to make this go away?”

Let’s Talk About Hormonal Acne for a Second

You break out on your chin and jawline.

You’re told:

“It’s hormonal.”

So what do you do?

  • go on birth control
  • take spironolactone
  • try a hormone supplement
  • drink the “hormone balancing” tea

But here’s the part no one explains:

👉🏽 That doesn’t answer why your hormones are off in the first place.

And if you don’t answer that … you’re just suppressing the symptom.

And the thing that makes it even more confusing?

Sometimes these things kind of work.

  • Birth control clears it… until it doesn’t
  • Spironolactone helps… but not fully
  • Accutane clears it… and then it comes back

And you’re left thinking:

“Wait… so what is actually going on?”

Same Thing with Food

You eat something → you break out

So you think:

“That food must be the problem.”

So you cut it out.

And maybe your skin improves a little…

But not fully.

Meanwhile, you’re also:

  • bloated
  • constipated
  • gassy
  • dealing with reflux
  • having inconsistent bowel movements

But no one ever told you to connect those dots.

So, instead of asking:

❌ “What food is causing this?”

Ask:

✅ “Why is my body struggling to handle this food?”

Because now we’re talking about:

  • gut health
  • digestion
  • stomach acid
  • microbiome imbalances

And now we’re actually getting somewhere.

The Deeper Pattern (That No One Talks About)

A lot of women I work with can trace this back years:

“I’ve had gut issues since college…”

“I’ve always been constipated…”

“It runs in my family…”

And suddenly it’s like:

Oh … this didn’t start with my skin.

When you zoom out, both of these reasons come down to one thing:

👉🏽 You don’t actually know why you’re breaking out.

And if you don’t know why:

  • every supplement is a guess
  • every diet is a guess
  • every product is a guess

That’s why you feel like you’ve tried everything … but nothing has actually worked.

Once you understand:

  • what’s driving your oil production
  • what’s happening with your hormones
  • what your gut is doing
  • what your body is struggling with

Then the approach becomes:

👉🏽 clear
👉🏽 easy to follow on AND off vacay
👉🏽 and it actually starts to work to clear your skin

Not:

  • random
  • restrictive
  • or exhausting
