xo,
Book a call
You finally go to the doctor.
You explain how tired you are, how your cycles are off, how your skin keeps breaking out no matter what you do.
They run bloodwork.
You wait days for answers.
And then you get that call: “Everything came back normal”.
But deep down, you know something’s off.
Because how could everything be “normal” when you feel this bad?
You’re Not Crazy — It’s The Wrong Testing
Almost every woman I work with has heard that same line.
And it’s one of the most frustrating experiences ever — especially when you can feel that your body isn’t functioning the way it should.
You’re tired but can’t sleep.
Your periods are irregular.
You’re bloated after almost every meal.
You break out like clockwork before your period.
You know your body better than anyone, yet you’re being told it’s fine.
Let me say this clearly:
You’re not overreacting, and it’s not in your head.
You’re not getting the full picture.
“Normal” Bloodwork Doesn’t Mean “Healthy”
Here’s what most women don’t know: when your doctor says your results are normal, that simply means you’re not sick enough to be diagnosed with a disease.
But there’s a huge gap between not having a disease and feeling your best.
Doctors use lab ranges based on the average population — and let’s be honest, the average person isn’t exactly thriving.
They’re stressed.
Inflamed.
Exhausted.
Nutrient-depleted.
So when you fall within the “normal” range, it doesn’t mean your body is functioning optimally — it means you’re just not at the point of medical crisis yet.
The Functional Difference: Normal vs. Optimal
Let’s take your thyroid for example.
Your TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) might come back “normal” at 4.0.
But functionally, the optimal range is closer to 1.5–2.5.
That means your thyroid is struggling — even if it’s not technically diseased.
And when your thyroid’s off, it can cause everything from fatigue and slow digestion to — you guessed it — acne.
Or maybe your iron levels look “fine,” but your ferritin (stored iron) is under 50.
That means your skin cells aren’t getting enough oxygen to heal properly.
Or your blood sugar looks stable, but your insulin is quietly creeping up — driving oil production, hormonal breakouts, and inflammation.
So when you’re told “everything’s normal,” it really means:
You’re surviving — not thriving.
The Blood Markers That Actually Matter
If you’re getting bloodwork done, here are some markers worth asking for:
🩸 CBC (Complete Blood Count): gives insight into your immune system and inflammation levels.
🧠 Full Thyroid Panel: not just TSH — include Free T3, Free T4, and thyroid antibodies to rule out autoimmune patterns.
🩹 Full Iron Panel: including ferritin (your stored iron).
🍭 Blood Sugar + Insulin: fasting glucose, fasting insulin, and A1C for a full picture of how your body handles carbs.
☀️ Vitamin D: vital for immune health, mood, and skin healing.
When my clients share these results with me, I interpret them through a functional lens — not just whether they’re “in range,” but whether they’re actually supporting clear skin, balanced hormones, and steady energy.
Why Bloodwork Alone Isn’t Enough
Here’s the thing: bloodwork is just a snapshot of what’s happening in your body in that single moment.
It doesn’t tell us what’s been happening behind the scenes for months (or years).
No long-term patterns.
It doesn’t reveal how your gut, liver, and adrenals are functioning day to day.
That’s why I always pair bloodwork with functional lab testing inside The Hormonal Acne Reset Method™.
Together, we look at:
🧪 The GI-Map
This test shows what’s really happening in your gut — from hidden infections and yeast overgrowth to inflammation and low digestive enzymes.
Because if your gut is inflamed, your skin will be too.
🔬 The HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis)
This test reveals your mineral patterns over the past 3–4 months.
It shows whether your body is in burnout, how stressed your adrenals are, and whether your cells have the energy to detox and heal.
Unlike bloodwork, these tests reveal how your body is functionally operating — not just whether you’re “sick enough” to get a diagnosis.
The Tests I Don’t Recommend
Let’s talk about food sensitivity testing — because it’s tempting, I know.
You get a list of foods that seem to cause reactions, and you start cutting everything out.
But here’s the problem: those tests don’t show the root cause — they just show that your immune system is reacting because your gut is inflamed.
Once you heal your gut, those “food sensitivities” often disappear.
You don’t need to live a life of restriction — you need to fix the environment that made your body sensitive in the first place.
My Own Wake-Up Call
When I ran my first round of lab testing, I was shocked.
I thought my issue was high cortisol.
It turns out, my body had been under stress for so long that my cortisol was almost nonexistent.
My hormones weren’t too high — they were too low.
My immune system was barely functioning.
For years, I’d been trying to “fix” things that weren’t even the problem.
Once I had the data, everything changed.
I stopped guessing. I stopped wasting money on random supplements and skincare. And I started healing — for real.
The Bottom Line: Normal Isn’t Enough
If your bloodwork keeps coming back “normal,” but you know something’s off — trust yourself.
You don’t need another round of antibiotics, another supplement stack, or another “anti-inflammatory” diet.
You need answers.
Functional testing gives you those answers — showing what your body has been trying to communicate all along.
